Security Officer
Courses
Private policing is becoming more prevalent in the business sector.
With the police services being overwhelmed with calls for service,
businesses and corporations are turning to security personnel to
assist in the preservation of their properties and protection of their
employees.
If officers are given such responsibilities, they must be
properly educated and trained to deal with the various situations they
may encounter. Does the officer know what his duties are upon an
arrest? As detailed in Section 494(3) of the Criminal Code, a person
arrested by a citizen must be forthwith turned over to a police
officer to be processed in due course. Security personnel now are the
witnesses (the eyes for prosecution) to these allegations and must be
prepared to act as a ‘Professional Witness’. There are Charter of
Rights issues that must be adhered to and the list goes on. This all
could be very confusing.
Security officers are people who have been given the authority under
law to act on behalf of the lawful owner of the property. They also
ensure the safety of all employees within the premise they are
working. It is imperative that these officers be properly educated and
trained for their respective jobs. There are civil and/or legal
consequences if their duties are not carried out in a professional and
legal manner.
The courses offered by Firstline of Defence
will provide the proper instruction and training that will give the
officer the knowledge and skills required. With this experience,
officers will be able to handle the various situations they encounter
and perform the duties properly. This not only builds confidence, the
knowledge and skills also make them an asset to any company.
With proper training, it is possible to alleviate work related
injuries to officers and reduce potential liabilities to Security
Companies. Educating and training is an on going process.
